The Instructor

Patricia (Pat) Pearce

- In 1970, started studies of Self-Defense by learning Chinese Martial Art’s principles through a reality based adaptation method developed by her first instructor, Dr. David D. Rix.

- In 1980 expanded into the studies of Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung under the guidance of Gary Smith, Prof. John (Bing-Yang) Li, and Dr. John (Wan Yuin) Chang.

- Approved as an instructor of marital arts and self-defense by the Maryland State Board of Higher Education.

- Pat has given talks on radio and TV. Has taught at Baltimore County Police Academy, Baltimore County Auxiliary Police (refined training; women’s division), Kernan Hospital Spinal Injury Division, numerous hospitals, corporations, and colleges, the Chesapeake Knife Show, local girl scout troops, Park School, Garrison Forest School for Girls, etc.

- She has participated in seminars with: the Late Grandmaster Fu Zhong Wen (Tai Chi Broad Sword), Late Grandmaster T.T. Liang (Tai Chi Chuan), Adam Hsu (Chinese bodyguard systems), Dr. Yang Jwing Ming (,Chin-na & Tai Chi Chuan) Jane Yao (Hou Style Push hands, Lily Lau (Eagle Claw), Master Mok Poi On (Wing Chun), Jimmy Wong (Tai Chi push hands, Glen Doyle (Irish Stick Fighting), Master Pan Qing Fu, Chun Man Sit (push-hand & standing push hands), Qiang Ya Liang, Paul Gallager (5 animals exercises) and others.

 

 

 

 

 

Tai Chi Chuan Classes

Mondays 6:30 to 8:00pm

$15/class

Introduction to Tai Chi Chuan. An in depth, yet simple, understanding of the components and biomechanics of Tai Chi Chuan.

 

Explanation of Yang Style  Tai Chi components:

1) 13 Principles  2) 38 postures 

3) 88 movement form

Whether she is teaching Tai Chi Chuan, Chi Kung (Chinese Health Exercises) or Personal Protection, Pat adapts these basic principles to enhance an individual's physical movement in various reality based situations. These principles are designed to guide you into learning to use your body as a whole for personal protection and to reduce self inflicted injuries during everyday tasks
